Writer, Designer, Founder | the Portland Buzz
Portland, Maine | 2011-2014, 2017

The Portland Buzz was a philanthropic endeavor born from my interest in connecting community and stimulating the local economy small. Essentially, it was an event calendar with related articles. This venture incorporated creative writing, blogging, local research, web design, web content creation, digital marketing, and search engine optimization. It never sat well with me to bring in advertising, so it remained a volunteer effort and eventually became too difficult to manage with my limited free time. The domain theportlandbuzz.com is for sale.

Digital Marketing Specialist | 50 Fish

After the down-sizing of The Beadin’ Path in 2012, their web developer brought me over to his firm where I assisted with various initiatives including the execution of weekly Idexx email newsletters, pay-per-click advertising, social media marketing, wordpress development, graphic design, content creation, and SEO strategy.

Small Business Consultant | Arcana

Digital Media + Marketing Specialist | The Beadin’ Path
Freeport, Maine | 2006-2012

I miss the environment of beautiful beads and jewelry findings at The Beadin’ Path. I assisted the lead web developer (from 50 Fish) with digital imaging and marketing, email newsletters, website content development, SEO implementation, and print design.

Retail Shop Entrepreneur | Cayenna Dancewear
Portland, Maine | 2002-2006

Fulfilling my shop owner dream, I founded and operated a retail storefront in Portland (and affiliated ecommerce site) that sold activewear, dancewear, dance shoes, and punk fashion. I know, one of those things is not like the other. This was a difficult journey, and ultimately a valuable education in small business management. I learned so much from doing everything wrong. In early 2005, given the weight of operating expenses, I transitioned the shop into an eBay store before phasing it out in 2006.

Technical Writer + Contract Specialist | Unum
Portland, Maine | 1997-2002

Although I came to understand that the corporate environment was not for me, I am forever grateful for my first career job which taught me so much about technical writing and research. In this position, I developed, updated, and edited training materials for business workflow and procedures.
